Indian Lentil Soup/ Dal Fry

A comfort indian delicacy where the lentils are cooked till mushy and then tempered to bring out all the flavours.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 10 nos Pearl onion
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped (optional)
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger, minced
  • few nos Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2-3 nos Dry red chillies
  • 2 tbsp Ghee/Clarified butter
  • 1/4 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • a pinch turmeric powder
  • coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  • Pressure cook the moong dal with turmeric, salt, ginger, and garlic till it's done.
  • Heat ghee in a pan. Add the cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves. Once they splutter add the onions sauté well.
  • Then the tomatoes with red chili powder and salt. Let it cook it till it starts leaving oil. 
  • Now add the cooked moong dal and mix well.
  • Bring it to a boil, check for salt and garnish with lots of coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti with extra ghee?
