Indian Lentil Soup/ Dal Fry

A comfort indian delicacy where the lentils are cooked till mushy and then tempered to bring out all the flavours.

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 10 nos Pearl onion
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped (optional)
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger, minced
  • few nos Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2-3 nos Dry red chillies
  • 2 tbsp Ghee/Clarified butter
  • 1/4 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • a pinch turmeric powder
  • coriander leaves to garnish
  1. Pressure cook the moong dal with turmeric, salt, ginger, and garlic till it's done.

  2. Heat ghee in a pan. Add the cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves. Once they splutter add the onions sauté well.

  3. Then the tomatoes with red chili powder and salt. Let it cook it till it starts leaving oil. 

  4. Now add the cooked moong dal and mix well.

  5. Bring it to a boil, check for salt and garnish with lots of coriander leaves.

  6. Serve hot with rice or roti with extra ghee?
