Step by Step Tutorial
In a small bowl, combine together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon powder and chilli powder.
Turn the pineapple on its side and cut off the top and bottom to create a flat surface for standing it up.
Turn the pineapple right side up and run your knife down the sides, slicing off the outer skin in strips as you go. You should remove all of the skin, but don't worry if you get some of the softer fruit visible beneath.
Once all of the skin has been removed, place the pineapple back on its side and slice it into rings that are 1 inch pieces.
Core pineapple using a pineapple corer or simply a round cookie cutter or plastic drinking cup to cut out the core from each ring. You should now be left with only the edible flesh of your perfect pineapple!
You can use canned pineapple if you like, but I personally think fresh pineapple tastes the best.
Also feel free to cut it into slices like pineapple spears or chunks if that is how you prefer!!
Add the prepared brown sugar and cinnamon butter mixture on top of the pineapple slices and coat the pineapples well from all the sides.
Next, place the pineapple slices in your air fryer basket in a single layer.
If there's not much space left after cutting all the fruit, you may need to do this in batches. That's okay; it won't take too long for each round to cook!
Please note: Do not add the aluminium foil to the base of the basket.
I found that the pineapples when placed directly on the air fryer basket gets nice caramalization and also chars well.
Set the temperature to 375°F or 180°C and air fry for 7-8 mins on each side.
The settings remain the same for any type of Air Fryer you use - Instant Pot, Philips, Ninja, Mealthy etc. Just remember to not place the aluminium foil if you like the charred look.
For best results don't be afraid to cook it more than the suggested cooking time, may be a minute or so longer if needed to get that charred look.
Trust me air fryer is the easiest way to make this excellent treat for your next summer bbq party.
The air fryer is perfect for cooking pineapple because the outside gets a nice brown char, while the inside stays juicy and sweet.
Your air fryer pineapple rings should be warm and caramelized at this point—perfect for eating with vanilla ice cream or cinnamon sorbet!

Apart from enjoying it on its own, amp up your everyday menu using grilled pineapples. Here are a few great ways:
- Simply serve it alongside with a scoop of ice cream for a quick and healthy delicious dessert like I have done today.
- Use it in your smoothies or salads.
- As a filling in your Pineapple Cake Recipe
- Serve it as a side along with different meat of choice.
- Dip it in caramel sauce.
- Drizzle it with honey or maple syrup for added sweetness.
- Garnish it on top of a pineapple cheesecake.
Handy Tips:
- Do not use aluminium foil or parchment paper for this recipe. After testing the recipe, I figured out that you get those nice charred look only when you place the pineapple rings directly in the air fryer basket.
- The leftover air fryer pineapple can be used in any recipe that calls for fresh pineapple, such as Pineapple Upside-Down Cake!
- I like to use fresh pineapple rings or sometimes cut into chunks when making this recipe because they have better flavor than canned (although you could use canned if that's what you have). Just make sure not to overcook them so they stay nice and juicy inside!
- Make sure to use a ripe pineapple. Ripeness is indicated by the color of the pineapple's flesh—if it's pale green, it's not ripe. Pick a pineapple with yellow-gold flesh for the sweetest fruit.
- The addition of chilli powder is the highlight of the recipe. You can skip it if making for kids.
