Ingredients:
Ingredient Notes:
- Oats: Rolled Oats is the preferred oats for this recipe
- Banana: I highly recommend using at least 1/2 banana as there is no other sweeteners in the plain version of baked oats. So consider using really ripe bananas.
- Milk: Acts as an egg replacer in this recipe. You can choose to add 1 egg instead.
You would need additional ingredients if you would like to flavour your oats.
If following the recipe then the additional ingredients you would need includes:
- Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal: As the name suggests you would need apples and cinnamon powder.
- Peanut Butter Banana Baked Oatmeal: Peanut Butter
- Nutella Baked Oatmeal: Nutella, Dark Chocolate piece and Cocoa Powder.
Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1 - Prepare the Batter
To your blender jar add the oats, baking powder and salt. Blend it.
Add the wet ingredients - 1/2 the banana, vanilla essence and milk. (image 1-2)
This is your plain baked oatmeal recipe as well as what I like to call the Blank Canvas; from here you can totally add so many flavours and come up with so many variations.
Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal:
To the blank canvas add chopped apples and cinnamon.
Blend until you get a cake batter like consistency.
Transfer it to greased ramekins. Top it with some more apples (images 3-5).
Peanut Butter Banana Baked Oatmeal:
To the blank canvas add peanut butter.
To the blank canvas add chopped apples and cinnamon.
Blend until you get a cake batter like consistency.
Transfer it to greased ramekins. Once you reach 3/4 of the height add 1 tbsp of peanut butter and pour some more oat batter to sandwich it (images 6-8).
Nutella Baked Oatmeals:
To the blank canvas, add nutella and cocoa powder.
Blend until you get a cake batter like consistency.
Transfer it to greased ramekins. Once you reach 3/4 of the height add a small slab of dark chocolate in the centre.
Cover it with some more nutella oats batter to sandwich the chocolate in the centre.
Step 2 - Bake
Bake the ramekins in the preheated oven of 375°F (190°C) for 20 mins or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Serve warm with garnishes of choice.
Recipe TIPS:
- Bananas: Do not skip using it. Bananas make everything creamier and sweeter. The ripe the bananas the better the taste will be.
- Sweeteners: As there are no sweeteners in the recipe; it is important that you add some kind of sweetener on top as garnish while serving like fresh fruits, caramalized fruits or drizzle some chocolate or honey or maple syrup if you are not habituated to eat unsweetened oats.
- Fruits: Apart from adding sweetness it also keeps the oats moist.
- Grease the ramekins to ensure that nothing sticks.
- Single dish: Instead of baking in 2 ramekins, you can add all the batter to a wide mouth ramekin or a mini casserole and bake.
- The recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.
Recipe Variations:
There is a reason why Tik Tok recipes are worth trying - be it our Pinata Cake, Dalgona Coffee, Tortilla Trend, Baked Feta Pasta or this Baked Oats.
It is because all the recipes are short, easy to make and comes with a tons of variations.
Here are few variations that you can try:
- White Chocolate and Raspberry: Bake the plain version of oats as per the instructions mentioned in the post and while still warm top it with white chocolate slab and some fresh raspberries. The white chocolate will melt a bit due to the warmth of the oats and coupled with raspberry would be a refreshing combination.
- Carrot Cake Oats: To the blank canvas add in some grated carrots, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove powder. And bake.
- Apple Pie Oats: Follow everything mentioned for the apple cinnamon version and along with that add chopped pecans, nutmeg and clove powder.
- Banana Bread Oats: Follow the instructions mentioned for Peanut Butter Banana Oats however skip the peanut butter and instead add spices and walnuts just like the way I make my best Banana Bread recipe.
Let me know what Variations are you going to try first?
Storage Instructions (Shelf-life)
To be honest with you all this tastes best when served warm right from the oven.
The leftovers can be stored in a box with a lid for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
You can also freeze this for upto a month.
Reheating Instructions:
Simply take the box from the fridge and microwave it until hot.
How does it Taste like?
Let me describe the taste of home baked oatmeal for you guys.
Since we are blending everything to a cake like batter, the texture does resemble that of a cake.
However note that we are not adding any egg in the recipe so it won't be light and fluffy, this recipe makes a dense gooey cake like or actually to me it felt more like a brownie's texture.
Since there are no sweeteners in the recipe, this is perfect for breakfast when topped with some honey or garnishes as mentioned above.
Except for the nutella version which can also qualify as a healthier dessert as nutella has some sugar already added to it. It is that delicious.
My Honest Opinion: Addition of maple syrup or honey to the original tiktok recipe would elevate it even more. If you are planning to make the plain version then definitely include it in your recipe.
Recipe FAQ's:
Both the versions follow the exact same ingredients the only difference is that we do not blend anything while making the oatmeal and hence the texture of the two varies. Oatmeal is more like a bread pudding whereas the baked oats resemble a dense cake like texture.
Yes definitely. Even though I recommend eating it straight away, you can make a big batch save some in the refrigerator for next day and then reheat the oats in the microwave until hot and serve.
The one that I am using in the pictures is 8.5 cms in diameter and could make 2 servings from the recipe.

Notes
- Oats: Use rolled oats or traditional oats for this recipe. Steel cut oats won't work.
- Bananas: Do not skip using it. Bananas make everything creamier and sweeter. The riper the bananas the better the taste will be.
- Sweeteners: As there are no sweeteners in the recipe; it is important that you add some kind of sweetener on top as garnish while serving like fresh fruits, caramalized fruits or drizzle some chocolate or honey or maple syrup if you are not habituated to unsweetened oats. Personally I feel adding 1tbsp maple syrup or honey to the tiktok baked oats recipe would elevate the taste of it.
- Nutritive Value: To increase the nutritive value you can add a scoop of protein powder, almond meal, flax seed powder or chia seed powder.
- Since we are not adding any eggs to the recipe, the resultant won't be light and airy rather it would be more like a dense cake like texture.
- If you are making the plain version of baked oats then do consider adding 1 tbsp of maple syrup or honey for some sweetness and flavour.
- The recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.
- To make it even faster you can consider cooking it in the microwave rather than oven. Microwave for 60 to 90 seconds in a microwave safe dish that is twice the size of the batter since it will rise while baking quickly in the microwave.
